Although not technically a book, as this is from the Disney movie Illustrations I hope you wont mind if I include this epic colourful back piece and sleeves of Alice in Wonderland

First of the Chutneys!

Autumn is just around the corner, and its cooking apples (or any apples for that matter) season!  My Uncle turned up with a massive carrier bag full of cooking apples, so I am planning on working my way through the bag in a variety of ways

First Batch from the Parsons household is Storecupboard Chutney, nothing more I love than a recipe that uses stuff I already have! Now as we are a small family of 4 there is so much jam and Chutney you can use in a year or two, so having planned to give away some as Christmas gifts, I had purchased some beautiful red polka dot lids!

You can basically use any bulk fruit, apple, pear, plums, even mango it says so in the book, although I'm thinking that I'm not just going to stumble upon 1.5kg of Mango growing in the UK! Which is a shame because I bet that would be yummy!

Plus the addition of over half a kilo of dried fruit makes it super quick to make, as it thickens up nice and quick! This bath was standard apricot, date and sultanas, all cut up super fine, as we don't like big lumps!

Here is is in all its cooking glory, it was at this stage that the cooking apples where not going to break down enough, so I had to mash them! But what we ending up with was this beautiful dark soft chutney below!
Theres those spotty lids! All ready for Labeling!

Next on the list is Rosemary Jelly, using more of the cooking apples!

Tattoo Love

Tree Edition

Coming up for Autumn I was inspired by these tree tattoos, mostly without leaves, and some with pretty abstract varieties!

This cool simple black contained tree, although quiet detailed in places

This pretty and cute colourful tree, I love all the little cute additions sitting in the branches and the odd patterned leaves, fruit, flowers and insects.   Every time I look, I find something new that jumps out!

This epic back piece, then the branches going down her right arm, impressive

This gorgeous tree/woman cross with its pretty tree top

Great sketchy black work tree, with some unusual additions to its branches

This wickedly abstract tree, I love how even the trunk has a cool abstract pattern with in the trunk and the little pair of birds sitting together in the branches

For the Love of...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Shirley Hughes infact I'm not sure how much more I can say, but her stories, and illustrations especially are the best

I love how vintage the images are, and how they make me think back to a time when life was alot simpler, there was no Internet and losing your oldest toy was the worst thing that you had to worry about as child.

Sand and sea

We have loads of her books, a lot of the Alfie and Annie Rose Series, but some others too these two books, we really like as there is a mixture of stories and poems

Plus these Alfie Books too, each one is a great story of good old fashioned loveliness

Lucy and Toms Christmas is a must in our house after 1st November, we get out all the Christmas books outs, but this one is read again and again and my soon to 6 year old still loves them, all about hiding pressies, not being able to sleep, they joy of Christmas stockings and making Christmas pudding!

Tattoo Love

Feathers

Super pretty and delicate feathers and dream catchers  always remind me of travelling and being free, probably because they are floaty and subtle

This great Dreamcatcher, is super cool

The subtle colour tips on these, and the little beads makes it quite tribal looking

This pretty Feather one, great placement

Another, but smaller Dreamcather, for my inner hippy!

Small and Understated

Exotic peackcock Plume in all its coloured glory

Not sure, what bird its from, but its a great life like feather

Another Peackock feather, in a different colourway and placement proving that thes best tattoos are never copied! It's one of my love of tattoos is just how differnt each artist and person can interperet each idea

and last but not lest this tiny feather...

Plus its a sort of little mini rainbow, tucked away!  I'm quite liking the behind the ear tattoos at the moment, maybe a whole TattooLove post for those?

The Phantom TollBooth

Whilst researching on the Internet for a completely different topic, I came across a mention of one of my favourite childhood books, The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster

Its such a crazy story, that even to this day years after reading it, it brings back memories. I love how books can do that, can make such an impression. My eldest is just reading, and I hope I can pass on my love of reading and books for both my daughters, so they can have the same recollection of great reads when they are older.

They already have an overwhelming interest in books, which can only be a good thing and some of their favourites where the books my mum kept for me, from my childhood. So I was thinking of making a feature of my favourite books, with some fab pictures of course!

So I'll Start with...

Click on the book to head over to Amazon to purchase it!

Although I do prefer the older Illustrations of tock, such as the one below!

There seems to be a huge love for this book on the Internet check out this love!

For those of you who haven't heard or read the book I suggest you do, here's Amazons' description...

When Milo finds an enormous package in his bedroom, he's delighted to have something to relieve his boredom with school. And when he opens it to find -- as the label states -- One Genuine Turnpike Tollbooth, he gets right into his pedal car and sets off through the Tollbooth and away on a magical journey! Milo's extraordinary voyage takes him into such places as the Land of Expectation, the Doldrums, the Mountains of Ignorance and the Castle in the Air. He meets the weirdest and most unexpected characters (such as Tock, the watchdog, the Gelatinous Giant, and the Threadbare Excuse, who mumbles the same thing over and over again), and, once home, can hardly wait to try out the Tollbooth again. But will it be still there when he gets back from school?

The thing that always spring to mind was pouring over the map at the front of the book!
Check out some of those places!

Read it? Loved it? Hated it?  Let me know!
